Work camps were where the workers were housed while they were working on the pyramid. Run down but a roof over your head.......NOT. They usually did not have roofs. Just walls.Way different than our houses now a days. Amazing how different but similar we all are.Kinda weird right. At this first glimpse AKA the picture at the top you can tell it wasn't much but did protect them from animals. So they called it home. Although not very good. Because it did not rain there really was no use for a roof. They houses were made out of bundles of plant. Not very water prof like wood but on the other hand there was no wood in Egypt. They had to import all of it. Expensive. They Pharaohs wouldn't want to pay that much for all the workers. I am not saying the Pharaohs were bad people but it was way to expensive. For instance your parents going out right now and buying a brand new Hummer with cash. I know that some of your parents will be able to do it but not everybody can. And imagine your parents buying one for every body in the US. That's the point I am trying to get across.Friday, December 11, 2009
Working- in a camp

You probably know that they pulled the huge stones, but have you ever thought about the Nile. You know the huge river in Egypt. Well what if that got in the way. Thats the role of wooden boats. They normally used reed boats but to carry these ginormas stones they would have to use something stronger. Like wood. These boats were normaly apart of the kings fleet. These medium sized ships carried many stones. How many woud you guess? Well you guessed right huh I really don't know what you guessed but the answer is 5-25 stones. These ships had big masts that weighed almost as much as a stone. You could imagine you standing in front of the great pyramid. With all of the stones still on it. And 5-25 of them being loaded on to these ships. They must have been huge!To the top but how.
They got them to the top, but how? Well that's what your going to find out. There are many theroys but the one I belive is physiccaly correct is the idea of ramps. But how, you ask. Well they piled up stone. You know scraps from the quarries. When they piled it up the constant weight of the blocks keep it compacted. Wow. As the pyramid got higher and higher so did the ramp. So the ramp was at least as tall as the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Who knew they could make that happen.
Moving or pulling...or both.
I never thought that they could ever pull 2 ton stone blocks. But as always the Egyptians pulled it of.I mean they actually pulled them. They didn't use machines or anything else except for man power and sometimes cattle. It took usually a lot of men but they pulled almost every single block in the construction of the pyramids. Hard, right? Well it was hard for the Egyptians to but to serve your king was a very high honor. One that would not usually be declined. What about you would you decline it. Send post to me and I am guaranteed to read them.Thursday, December 10, 2009
The process of making and shaping of the huge stone blocks.

The funny things about the egyptians is where they got their stone from. You would think it came from some mudbrick or something. But they- for being from way back when- got the stone from huge limestone quarries. They odviously did'nt have advanced stuff like a saw but to them (although not to us) even a chisel was advanced as it goes for them. You wouldn't think you could do much with a chisel and a wood slab but they lifted hundreds of huge blocks from the side of a rockwall. Woppie. Who would want to work on a giant structure for 20 years. NO WAY! You wish. But now a days people are so lazy. We of coarse wouldn't stand in the beating hot sun every day. They used a wooden slap and put it in the holes they chizled out. Wow isn't that advanced.Well, they did do some good thinking though. For instance they poured water on the wooden slabs. When would gets wet you know how it warps. Well that was the idea behind it. They thought that when it expanded it would make the stone pull away from the wall. Well, it worked. Then when it fell the people down under it would chisel it straight. Dangerous right. Well thats what I thought to. Werid, right. Well if you read some of my other posts you'll learn lots more.
